An Unforgettable Shower!
Last month, I organized a baby shower for my sister, Aleyne. She’s eight months pregnant and ready to burst, so I attempted to relieve her back pains and furtive anticipation for a day by inviting all of her favorite girl friends over for an afternoon of fun and gifts.
I tried to think of the perfect favor for each guest to take home, and I thought that candles would be the perfect gift! A votive is small enough to customize for a shower and personal enough to show true appreciation. A scented votive candle became the symbol of this momentous occasion that everyone shared.
Preparing baby shower candle favors is fun and simple. Here are a few tips to help you pick the perfect scented candle favor for your shower.
It’s a Girl!
Think pink for a new baby girl. A pink votive with a floral aroma is a classic idea and very fitting to the occasion. The range of votives by Montag is the first place to start searching for the perfect color and scent for your shower. Their ‘Cottage Tulips’ candle has a light floral aroma that transports you to a European tulip field. It also comes in a sweet powder pink color.
Perhaps Trapp’s votive in ‘Honeysuckle’ is more to taste; it comes in a delicate white with the sweet scent of summer. There are so many aromas that can be classed as ‘girly’ but can be enjoyed by anyone. Pick the right scent for your shower and for a beautiful baby girl!
It’s A Boy!
Soft scented candles that come in blue, white or green hues are recommended for a baby boy shower. Scents do not have to be too dominating or overly-masculine – perhaps a deep floral or earthy scent would work, or even a more unique linen scent.

It’s A Surprise!
If the Mom-to-be has decided to wait to find out the gender of the baby, then a more neutral approach needs to be taken in terms of color and scent. Maybe look for yellow, orange and light green votives in fresh fruit and citrus scents. Trapp has a votive in ‘Orange/Vanilla’ that comes in a creamy orange color that would work for a boy or a girl.

Preparing for the big day
Aleyne didn’t want to know whether she was having a boy or a girl so I opted for a lovely orange Montag votive called ‘Grapefruit Twist’.
Decorating the favors was so fun! I took an idea from some candle wedding favors I had taken home before and bought a few packs of round decorative netting. I placed the votive in the middle of the circle, gathered up all of the sides and tied them together with citrus green ribbon. Once all of the votives were wrapped, I sprinkled them with baby shower confetti and put them to the side until the big day came.
Another tip is to always purchase and customize at least five more favors than you planned for – just in case any last minute or surprise guests arrive on the day.
Candle favors can be used for a number of special occasions. If you want to say ‘thank you’ to your guests at any event, a candle favor is a smart and sweet way of doing so. candle favors are quite common at weddings too – usually a favor will be placed on the table in front of each persons’ seat as a mark of appreciation. A candle favor will last longer and smells better than a thank you note too!
The shower was a huge success and the favors were too. As the guests were leaving, I distributed them out one by one, and the surprise on some of their faces was unforgettable! Who would have thought that such a small token of appreciation could leave such a lasting impression?

The Baby BottleBlankie is the perfect present for baby, whether I can look for a baby shower gift, birthday gift, for any celebration, for any reason, or just because. I find this Unique and distinctive, warm and soft - there’s nothing else like it. My experience says Babies love to feel things and particularly love the soft warm feel of fleece and satin.
